I hope I have taught her

We are in a new season of life where another one of kids, Erica is getting married. I have grown very close to Erica over these past few months. Personally, I know this will be hard on me, like each of the other kids weddings have been. As she prepares for this next season of her life, I have these thoughts:

1- I hope I have taught you to love yourself. No matter how hard life gets, or how many mistakes you make, keep loving your self. I think this not as a selfish love, but as a love that comes from God. He loved you first. His love is unbreakable.

2- I hope I have taught you to keep loving others no matter what. Your marriage will be challenging at times, but keep committed to loving your God and your spouse. Your love might be challenged but don't give it up.

3- I hope I have taught you to respect your spouse. The Bible tells wives to respect their husbands. This respect is a choice. A man will never do enough to warrant respecting him if that is the criteria. Respect him again and again. In return he will love you.

4- I hope I have taught you how to live within your means. I can be a spender. I have worked hard to learn to be frugal and creative. I hope I have taught you the balance of this important value.

5- Last of all, I hope I have taught you that we all want to be pursued. Many times, we stop pursuing others and honestly this leads to hurt. Keep pursuing your man even when you don't want to. He craves it.

How about you? What is it you hope you have taught your kids?
